Sizing edge AI hardware for computer vision workloads

TOPS figures are only the beginning. Camera count, model size and power budget decide which platform fits.

Start with streams, not TOPS

Count the cameras, their resolution and the frame rate you must analyse. Four 1080p streams at 15 fps with a compact detection model fit comfortably on a Jetson Orin NX; sixteen 4K streams with segmentation require a discrete GPU.

Mind the power envelope

Fanless systems are limited to roughly 25–60 W of total heat. When the enclosure, ambient temperature or solar power supply is constrained, choose efficient accelerators and optimise models with INT8 quantisation.

Plan for I/O and storage

Integrated PoE+ ports reduce cabling and external power supplies. Local NVMe storage allows event clips to be buffered when the uplink is unavailable, which is common at remote sites.

Validate before you scale

We offer loan units and benchmark your model on both BAI-2100 and BAI-4600 platforms, so you can compare throughput per watt before choosing a tier.
